In 2005, I went to one of the biggest Super Smash Bros Melee
tournaments in the world (MELEEFC). It was held in Indiana and
probably over 200 to 300 people attended (from all over the world.). I
think it was 70 dollars for the whole weekend, including food and all
entry fees. I drove with Mikey and the craziest thing happened to him
that day of the tournament (hisDad died that day). He chose to still
go to the tournament to try to get his mind off of it. The drive there
wasnt too bad, but once we got near the backroads that led to the
Church at which it was held rain just started pouring so hard that
there was nearly zero visibility. Eventually we got there but that had
to have been the craziest rain I have ever been in.

I was so excited when we got there, the room had like 50 or more TVs.
This was my last official tournament before I retired from playing
smash. I think I have been playing it for like 5 years or more. It is
the most addicting and fun game ever.

Nothing too interesting happened the first night into the tourney. I
think they started doubles or something and we all just stayed up
rediculously late. The funniest

part about that night was when we were sleeping. I brought my

air matress and had it in the corner. I only brought one blanket and
one pillow. I felt really bad, but Mikey didnt bring anything to sleep
on or in (not even a pillow) and anytime I woke up he was just sitting
there indian style. He probably had the worst sleep that weekend, but
I think he had a lot on his mind.

On the second day we had a lot of fun playing smash all day. The local
news was there interviewing people and a lot of the international
people got interviewed. Probably the most intense matches were the
crew matches. It was East, vs West, vs Midwest vs South. East coast
won the matches, but everyone was gathered around cheering people on.
I played in singles and I thought I did pretty well. In team
tournament, Mikey and got knocked out, but were very close in beating a
very difficult set. That night was pretty fun. It was friday night
and drinking was strictly prohibited, so everyone got together and had
the craziest games of dodgeball. We had a pretty big tournament that
took forever to organize all the rules and setup. It was a lot of
fun. I remember being kind of sore from it too. Also that night was
fun because some guy brought the Action Replay and was doing all these
crazy manipulations and cheat codes with the game.

Once again we stayed up very late.

On the final day, we had the singles tournament. Everyone was
impressed with my Zelda and of course I didnt win. But what was
interesting about this day was that Joe had gotten a hotel apartment
type suite for that night. When we had some downtime he and I went
over there and attempted to find the hot tub to chill in.
Unfortunately all they had was a pool but we still went in and swam.
We also played some billiards too. After the tournament ended Joe
basically invitied the whole tournament over to his hotel room for a
big party. I ended up having to buy all the booze and ended up getting
6 cases of beer. While I was at the Krogers it was funny because they
have a limit on how many you can buy. So I had to buy three, come back
in and buy three more.

Once I got to the hotel things took at turn for the worse. There were
cops roaming around the parking lot and by the time I got there,
someone had already complained about the noise level. A few hours
later after about 50 people gathered in this small apartmentesque hotel
and things were very quiet because we all knew that the cops had been
called. Most of these people had very long drives ahead so they were
going to crash at joes hotel and leave in the morning. But the cops
knocked on the door and said that there are only to be a maximum of 5
people per room and this party was a fire saftey violation. I was
going to crash there too originally, but after there turned out to be
50 people there, I really didnt want to do that. Luckily Joe
