Sometime after my first trip to China.  Maybe a few days later, I immediately had a business trip out to San Diego for training while working at Compuware.

I was living in Ann Arbor at the time and had not been back there for like a month straight.

So I fly out there and it was such a long flight!  Even though I just had ridden at least 18 hours from China, 5 hours seemed very long to me to travel within my own country.

I get there on a Sunday afternoon and I swear I didnt even get settled into my hotel.  I think I immediately took my rental car out and around the city until I found a good spot to park and start rollerblading.  I was rollerblading all around Mission Bay and the board walk in San Diego and having a really good time enjoying the atmosphere.  I had some people take some photos of me as the sun set.  And I just was really appreciating such a beautiful new city that I have never been to.  I went to a crab shack and had some . . . I graduated from U of M in December of 2004, hoping that being a December graduate might make me more marketable for finding a full-time teaching job. No such luck. In January, I sent out over 50 applications, had 6 interviews, and was offered a charter school job, which fell through, long-term sub job teaching - of all things! - Spanish. I took it and hated it. Allen Park is not my kind of place. I later found out I was high on the list for other schools, but not high enough apparently.
That summer, I went back to work at Sunny Days, the best camp ever. I sent out an interview to Romulus because a friend had told me it was my kind of place. I remembered to apply because I drove through it one day on the way back from Allen Park and thought to myself it looked a lot more real than AP.
So late June they called me for an interview, for an 8th grade language arts position. It was the first interview of the summer and I was nervous as all get out. I abandoned the suit attire and didn't take out my nose ring. I made a list of 3 things I wanted them to know about me, even if they didn't ask. The interview was amazing. I felt on top of my game and excited. It went over 15 minutes, which also felt great. All good signs but good signs in interviews don't always matter - the other interviews I had went great but nothing came of them. I expected nothing.
In the middle of camp chaos, I got a phone call from Romulus' human resources. They were offering me the job! And the starting salary was extremely generous. I remember screaming up and down in the parking lot after the phone call, after I attempted to be mature in my conversation but found myself blubbering things like, "You just made my summer!" (He still reminds me I said that.) I called everyone in my family, literally. My mom in Germany (pricey call from a cell!), Ryan's mom, my grandparents, my aunt, etc. I was still hopping up and down. Remembering that moment still brings a smile to my face. I really love my job. It was in the stars for me, I guess.

Doug gave me a call asking if I wanted to go see a play with him and Emily. It was called "The Complete Works of Shakespeare (abridged)" and it was supposed to be pretty funny. So, I agreed to go because I was doing nothing else that day.

So, I get picked up my Emily to go. First, I love having friends in the drama stuff because I got the same discount as them for just going with them. Hurray for saving two bucks (two whole drinks for me)!

Well, the main idea of this play is that these three guys do all the parts in the plays, covering all of Shakespeare's plays really quick. They took all of his comedies and made one crazy play with it, turned one into a cooking show, covered all the historical ones as a football game, and even did Hamlet four time, once at their normal speed, again faster, then even faster, then backwards.

The best part about the play was that there was no fourth wall to hide behind. They constantly talked to the . . . Read More..

So I convinced one of my best friends Matt to come with with me at my company down here in FL last summer.

He had left NYC and was at his parents and didnt have an official nine to five job, and we had an opening.

He eventually accepted the 3 month contract position and was expected to come to this BBQ that my boss was putting on by driving down here.

Of course Matt forgot that they took that Friday off at the DMV, so he flew into Tampa W/O a car.  So for the first month or so, I drove him everywhere.

He had basically a duffle bag for that first month and he lived with me and Susan in the spare bedroom.  Here are all the memories I can think of that we had together during his short stay in FL.

  • The best memory was when we went biking in the woods, it took two hours to get there because we are douche bags and we took what we thought was the "back route" to get to the trails.  Little did we know we would be knee deep in mudd, spiders and spider webs, snakes and other
