On the day I had planned to ask Susan to marry me, I took her up from our friend Cynthia's cabin up to Mackinac island because it was only a few hours away from there and we wouldnt have to do any crazy driving to get there. We arrived at the island and she was super excited because this was her one vacation of the summer and it was just for a short amount of time.

We got to the island and the first thing we did was rent some bikes. She probably had wished that I had gotten the two seater so I could do all of the work. We began our bike ride going northwest on the island and about 10 minutes into it we saw my friend Eugene from work ride passed us. His girlfriend Allyssa yelled at me and they then biked toward us. I was very surprised that he took his girlfriend up there too. I was also worried that he was going to say something about us getting engaged because a few days earlier word had gotten out that I had purchased some bling bling.

All went well and later we

I graduated from U of M in December of 2004, hoping that being a December graduate might make me more marketable for finding a full-time teaching job. No such luck. In January, I sent out over 50 applications, had 6 interviews, and was offered a charter school job, which fell through, long-term sub job teaching - of all things! - Spanish. I took it and hated it. Allen Park is not my kind of place. I later found out I was high on the list for other schools, but not high enough apparently.
That summer, I went back to work at Sunny Days, the best camp ever. I sent out an interview to Romulus because a friend had told me it was my kind of place. I remembered to apply because I drove through it one day on the way back from Allen Park and thought to myself it looked a lot more real than AP.
So late June they called me for an interview, for an 8th grade language arts position. It was the first interview of the summer and I was nervous as all get out. I abandoned the suit attire and didn't take out my nose ring. I made a list of 3 things I wanted them to know about me, even if they didn't ask. The interview was amazing. I felt on top of my game and excited. It went over 15 minutes, which also felt great. All good signs but good signs in interviews don't always matter - the other interviews I had went great but nothing came of them. I expected nothing.
In the middle of camp chaos, I got a phone call from Romulus' human resources. They were offering me the job! And the starting salary was extremely generous. I remember screaming up and down in the parking lot after the phone call, after I attempted to be mature in my conversation but found myself blubbering things like, "You just made my summer!" (He still reminds me I said that.) I called everyone in my family, literally. My mom in Germany (pricey call from a cell!), Ryan's mom, my grandparents, my aunt, etc. I was still hopping up and down. Remembering that moment still brings a smile to my face. I really love my job. It was in the stars for me, I guess.

I must first start off by saying I'm sorry for not posting my many memories on the hottest site on the web. It's been extremely busy at work lately, which is good. Also, this is the only time I've been able to use the web(at work). Now Kristen and I finally(after 6 months) have internet capabilitys. Now one of these days I might pass Lel as the ultimate crawler. But this is not a blog so here we go.

During my four year run in high school my parents sent me to basketball camp every summer. It wasn't just any camp, this was the best in the nation. The players I went head to head with everyday are now in the N.B.A.
I must say I did hold my own for a little white boy from the C-Town. The camp took place at Robert Morris College in Pittsburg and brought out the best in teachers and players.

Syracuse was always my favorite school. It was a dream of mine to one day play for jim Bohiem and the Orangemen in upstate New York. On this particular day I was preparing for a game at camp. I . . . Read More..

From (People Who I look up To)
Original Memory Interview Question

Is there anyone that you know you have inspired thus far in your life?

His Response:

Well, I can only hope so. When my son, Bill, went through confirmation and chose his confirmation name (as a Methodist, that's something weird to me), he chose the name Paul. Quite an honor, I think.

Outside of my family, I hope the kids I've met in Scouting and soccer have taken something (good) from my examples. I've tried.

At the regional meet my junior year was the only meet of the season that you can qualify for state finals and I was planning on making it with my 4x400 team.  We were very close to getting that time and place to make it, but something else happened that was far greater.  My 4x800 team pulled the fastest time ever at Mott and we broke the school record and made it to state finals!

The way we accomplished this was totally random.  All we set out to do was to stay behind the Walled Lake Western team the whole race and thats exactly what happened.  Our previous times werent even close to breaking the school record and we dropped our time that day by 20 seconds.

Our two seniors Zack and Josh pulled out the first two . . . Read More..
